Your Voice, Your Choice #43 – Kären McCormick

Today we continue with our popular “Your Voice, Your Choice” feature on Belles and Gals, the 43rd edition of the feature! We introduce one of our favourite songs from a country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature US country artist Kären McCormick.

We first heard ‘Just a Song’ a couple of weeks ago and we were so taken by it that we just had to feature it as our song of the day. In that piece, Kären explained the meaning behind the song:

I got the idea while I was in the car and Keith Urban’s song ‘Break On Me’ came on the radio. It took me back to a specific place, a specific moment with a specific person. I realized that someone else listening to the song in that moment may not even realize that someone had an emotional attachment to it. That’s where the title came from. I wanted to have a theme of nostalgia, and I think the feeling and experience is  something that a lot of people can relate to. Once I had the title, the song wrote itself.

Kären has chosen ‘Butterflies’ by Kacey Musgraves.

I’ve been a big Kacey Musgraves fan since she first exploded on the country music scene with her debut hit, “Merry Go ‘Round”. And it’s not just because we have the same initials! Ha.
Kacey’s songwriting style is impeccable, especially with this track. We don’t usually hear upbeat love songs from Kacey, but I love how even though this is a rare storyline from her, she still manages to keep true to her classic Kacey Musgraves style. Relatable metaphors, an addicting hook, and her classic country sound. I love that Kacey has never been afraid to stay true to her sound, yet she still finds a way to change it just enough to keep fans on their toes and excited about what is coming next. I can’t wait for Golden Hour!
