Your Voice, Your Choice #31 – Jeannine Barry

Today we continue with our popular “Your Voice, Your Choice” feature on Belles and Gals! We introduce one of our favourite songs from a country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature UK country artist Jeannine Barry.

Jeannine Barry has become a firm favourite here at Belles and Gals since we launched a couple of years ago. She has featured on the site a number of times now and she is certainly an artist on the rise. At the end of last year, Jeannine released her latest EP Bittersweet, my review stating: “Overall I have to say that the EP is just brilliant. You’ve got a real mix of different styles within the four songs, while at all times the fantastic vocals of Jeannine Barry take centre stage.” (read the full review here). Above you can watch/listen to the fantastic title track.

Jeannine played a headline show in London recently and I was lucky enough to be in attendance – it was a fantastic night. What was particularly interesting to me were the two new songs she played at the end of the set, each of which stood out. This bodes very well for new music from Jeannine in 2018!

Jeannine has chosen ‘Picture’ by Kid Rock featuring Sheryl Crow

Jeannine writes:

“There are a million amazing songs I could easily name which have influenced me greatly but since I have to choose one I will take one that reminds me of a special time in my journey to becoming the artist I am today. ‘Picture’ by Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow. I didn’t grow up to Country Music so had very little exposure to it but somehow I heard this song. Looking back how I felt when I heard it, it couldn’t have been clearer that Country Music is at the core of who I am. This was way before I started actively pursuing my music career. At that time I didn’t have the confidence nor believe that it could be possible for me. I listened and sang the song non-stop and played it to everyone I knew to share my excitement but they all just looked at me like I was crazy. Looking back it is just nice to see how the dots connect and this time was an important part of my journey.”
