Your Voice, Your Choice #30 – Charlotte Elizabeth

Today we continue with our popular “Your Voice, Your Choice” feature on Belles and Gals which has now reached the grand old age of 30! We introduce one of our favourite songs from a country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature UK songwriter Charlotte Elizabeth.

In a first for our ‘Your Voice, Your Choice’ feature, we’re featuring a songwriter! The songwriter in question is Charlotte Elizabeth. Back in February, Charlotte released her debut EP ‘Survive’ which featured five songs penned by Charlotte and performed by a range of UK county artists, including Ash Cooper, Thorne Hill, Kim Tink and Belles and Gals team member Emma Moore. You can see ‘Shatter Like Glass’, performed by ‘Angels with Dirty Faces’ (above) which also appears on the EP. Read our review of ‘Survive’ here.

As you can see ‘Shatter Like Glass’ is a simply fantastic song, bought to life brilliantly by Stuart Landon and the rest of the ‘Angels’ (I’m lucky enough to be seeing them perform live this week!). I cannot wait to see what tricks Charlotte has up  her sleeve for 2018!

Charlotte has chosen ‘Born To Fly’ by Sara Evans

As a songwriter, I like to know the stories behind the songs but I am also very intrigued by who the cowriters are.

One songwriter that I have followed for a long time is Marcus Hummon who cowrote this number 1 hit with Sara Evans and Darrell Scott.

He also cowrote the number 1 country songs ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’ by The Dixie Chicks and ‘Bless The Broken Road’ by Rascal Flatts.

This song is a great empowering, inspirational song and for those who know me, will understand that this is exactly the soundtrack to my life! It is a song about telling your dreams to everybody and people not quite believing that you can achieve it but doing so anyway!

It also features the backing vocals of Ricky Skaggs who is an absolute country legend!
