Today we continue with a great new feature on Belles and Gals – “Your Voice, Your Choice”. We introduce one of our favourite songs from a country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature UK country duo Two Ways Home.
Two Ways Home are real rising stars of the UK country scene, formed of Isabella Mariee (originally from Vienna) and Lewis Fowler (from Gloucestershire). In the two years since releasing their debut E.P. in 2015, the duo have toured internationally and have enjoyed extensive radio airplay. I can also personally testify that Two Ways Home are a great live act too, having seen them on more than one occasion. The duo, now based in London, are also hosts of a regular Nashville style writers round called the ‘Round Up’.
Above you can see the video for ‘Best Part of Me’, a song which opened their excellent latest EP ‘Closest Stranger’. Strangely for a country song, this number has a real engaging, feel-good vibe. The accompanying video, much of which is shot in the picturesque location of Rochester, only complements the song.
The duo also have a fantastic new single out ‘Outlaws’ – download it here
Two Ways Home have chosen ‘Poison and Wine’ by The Civil Wars
‘Poison & Wine’ by the Civil Wars is one of our favourite tracks. It always transports us back to being at their last ever show at the Roundhouse to then see them cancel the rest of their tour the following day and go their separate ways. This song has a powerful meaning, wrapped up in a haunting melody, floating on an ambient bed of piano and acoustic guitar. Their voices blend effortlessly and the song is beautifully written showcasing two different perspectives coming to a common ground in the Chorus. This song is the perfect example of something being bittersweet.
