Moore and More: February 2017 – Kira Mac

On Tuesday 31st January of this year, Kira Mac released her electric self-titled debut EP – and by God it’s good! In fact, I challenge you to make it through the first song (iTunes No.4 Single ‘Storm On The Horizon’) without dancing along.

Following the success of it’s lead single, Kira’s EP debuted at No.3 on the iTunes Country Chart and this week sees it’s celebratory party. Fans of Belles and Gals are in for a treat as Kira leads an all female line up with Belles and Gals ‘EP Of The Year’ winner Samantha Lloyd and yours truly!

Kira’s eclectic music taste has undoubtedly shaped her sound, citing Stevie Knicks as her biggest influence alongside Country powerhouses Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert. Kira also has fond memories of growing up to Garth Brooks and Blackberry Smoke, mostly with her Dad.

After receiving a guitar for her 13th birthday Kira set out to learn the songs of her Idols, but quickly started exploring her own writing. At 21, armed with a powerful voice and collection of songs Kira set out to record her first EP, becoming the latest in a long line of UK Country artists to trust Justin Johnson with her music. Teaming with Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist Donna Marie, the trio sat down to polish Kira’s existing songs and write fresh tracks together, culminating in what I can only describe as the most exciting UK Country EP I’ve heard. When I asked the awful question of Kira’s favourite song on the EP she said “I can’t choose! I like them all for different things and I wrote them all at different times when I was feeling differently” and added they were all “like dairy entries.”

I was lucky enough to witness first hand Kira’s introduction to the live country crowd, when she joined me on stage at Belles and Gals’ first live event – lighting up the crowd with a cover of Gretchen Wilson’s ‘Here For The Party’. Mac described it has her favourite live performance because “the audience were so appreciative of what we were doing also it was a great song and an amazing band, it was like my induction into the family.”

The live launch for Kira’s EP takes place this Friday (3rd March) at The Rigger in Stoke-On-Trent and you can get your FREE TICKETS here – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/kira-mac-ep-launch-party-tickets-31578242373 (Advance only, OTD Price £3) and you can find Kira at some amazing festivals throughout the year such as Vamos and Buckle And Boots!
