Today we introduce Blue Genes, who are particularly interesting in the fact that they sing as a family. The consist of mum and dad Kay and Stephen and daughter Megan, who has the lead vocals in this beautiful number. The combination of Megan’s excellent vocals and the harmonies between the three make for a real authentic and gorgeous sound. I asked Kay to tell us all about the song:
“Right Now was written after recording our debut EP. As we are family and live together writing is a big part of our everyday lives. We love this particular track and hope that it will be included in the next album. Right now was born from a set of lyrics I wrote for Megan, it was a song about life from a young girls perspective. It tells how she is just enjoying life at the minute, taking each day and each experience as it comes. Which I think is an ethos a lot of young people share. Megan loved the lyrics and immediately set to work on bringing the lyrics to life in a beautiful melodic ballad. We love this song, Megs innocent vocal and our three part harmonies really make the song believable. It’s been a great hit with festival goers this year and it had it’s first airing this summer at Buckle and Boots Festival. This video is taken from one of our coffee shop sessions back in the spring. Hope you enjoy!”
Kay and Stephen have been performing together since the mid 1990’s as duo “Calon”, while Blue Genes came into being at the end of 2014. The band are passionate about the USA and UK country music scene and hope to bring a unique blend of contemporary country covers and self-penned material to audiences nationwide.
